Jacques Roland Leon Mast, who signs Jack Mast, was born on
September 29 in Paris, in the fifties. He lived in Nogent-Sur-Marne, a city next
to Paris and home of many artists. Since he was a child his joy was watching his
father and his brother that used to paint by dilettantism. It was then that He
made his first drafts, despite his professor of art say that he was very bad in
drawing and painting.
Even with no incentive of any kind (for an artist, that means incentivate by
itself), he continued painting through the years, but he kept his work to
himself.
He worked in several áreas, some involving art, but not always. At the age of
twenty He left the army and He moved to Canada to find a clearer direction for
his life. In the baggage he took his eternal love for art.
Graduated in decoration, he worked for various commercial and residential
sectors, he began to paint pictures ordered by customers and he decided to
prepare na exhibition of art.
He was extremely successful. He sold almost all his paintings, and win prizes in
Quebec and Montreal. After that, he was invited to exhibit in New York, Morocco,
Tunisia, Spain and Belgium. In Venice he met the owner of the gallery Seltie who
invited him for an exhibition, this time in his own land: Paris.
In France, his paintings have been exhibited in Aix-en-Provence, Brittany, and
Nice Cote D'Azur.
In 2003 he was recognized by the French government with the prize "Metier
D'Art."
He continued his work as interior decorator, and he had solo exhibitions
sporadically.
In 2006 he decided to visit South America, a dream he had since childhood. In
Brazil he falls in love with Sao Paulo and he decides live in this Country
forever.
In December 2007 he illustrated the book "The Imaginary Friend" (“O Amigo
Imaginário”), by Alessandra Bourdot - published by Toca Disc.
In April 2008 he made his first exhibition in Brazil, “The colors of the
Feeling” (“Cores do Sentimento”), in Reserva Cultural, in São Paulo.
His goal is to get impregnate by nature Brazilian and to paint this experience
in his paintings, absorbing their colors and their sense of life.
His work is divided into cycles:
1 - Figurative
2 - Neo-figurative
3 – Neo-cubist
4 - Abstract (reflection of his soul)
